L.O.V.E Reflection III

Tay Jun Hao : As Singaporean teenagers, we should interact with everyone regardless of our race, or the country they are from. If everyone achieves this, it would improve the relationship between different people with different religions and thus avoid arguments between countries. We should Give them examples where peace turn to unpleasant happenings, such as the Singapore history where we took the peace and success for granted and were taken advantage of. We thought peace was for sure, so we were not prepared or even thought about it. This is of course a wrong way to think, so we must, think further and be prepared for any problems. We must not start putting the blame on who started spreading the SARS virus and instead, we must take the appropriate measure and work as a whole nation. When we think we are infected, we should not be afraid to be quarantined or likewise avoid people who have symptoms of SARS. These are negative attitudes which we should not be having.

L.O.V.E Reflection II

Teng Lin : I think that as a role of Singaporean teenager in supporting international friendship day we should build a good image of Singaporean when we go oversea to other countries and should not behave inappropriately or else other countries might think that we Singaporeans are not very well educated even though our country is small. We Singaporeans should be brave and stay away from those who do not have the disease so that we will not spread the disease to them and we should be staying quietly at home waiting for the cure. We need to be responsible for our body and try to maintain the disease under control and not spreading it to others.National education is very important as it teaching us be loyal to Singapore and not migrate to other countries after we are being educated in Singapore and forget all about Singapore and also teaches us that we need to serve Singapore when we grow up. It also teaches us to defend Singapore when we are being attacked by other countries because our country is rather small, thus, all male Singaporeans undergo national service to learn how to protect Singapore. As Singaporean teenager, we can ask students or teachers who comes from other countries to wear their traditional costumes and games which can be introduced to our Singaporeans students which do not have heard of the game before and teach them how to play the games which only their countries have. They also will have to wear their costumes and introduce to the school the special features of their costumes.

L.O.V.E Reflection I

Farris : To me, as a Singaporean teenager in supporting the NE, we should not be racist and just mix with our own race. We should make friends with people regardless of their race. This would strengthened the relationship between people of different races and religions. We should give advice to our peers who take Singapore’s peace and success for granted. We should give them examples of several incidents that had happened in the past and that may happen.( e.g. a riot occurred between the Malays and Chinese of Singapore on 21 July 1964 due to some Malay citizens who attacked a Chinese policeman during the celebration of Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday. This triggered the riot to happen.)We should be ready in case Singapore faces another crisis like the SARS outbreak. We should not put the blame on others as if they are responsible for spreading the disease, as we may be responsible for the disease too. We should not stay away from people who are infected with the SARS. We should instead talk to them and comfort them instead of treating them as if they are a danger to everyone’s life.We should also help them to fight SARS together. We should pay attention and engage in discussion during NE in class. By carrying out National Education, we would be aware that there is presence of the problem of some citizens not being cooperative and does not care of people’s feelings and also being biased. NE also teaches us to be loyal to Singapore and do not migrate to Singapore if there is a downfall or trouble in Singapore. This way, the students will be aware and does not take Singapore’s peace and success for granted.

CONCLUSION

WHAT SHOULD WE DO?

In order for Singapore to create a good relationship bond with other countries in economic ways and military ways, Singapore should:

  • Be considerate

  • Be ready to help other countries who are in need

  • Engage in meetings with other countries.

  • Do not oppose to any decisions made by the other countries if it does not affect Singapore

GOOD TIMES

EXAMPLE 1...

Indonesia and Singapore are working out the final details of a Defence Cooperation Agreement
to strengthen military ties. Indonesia and Singapore have enjoyed good defence ties for more than three decades and the Defence Cooperation Agreement to be signed between the two Asean neighbours will strengthen this relationship.
This is a way to strengthen the relationship of Singapore with other countries and to show that Singapore is ready to defend.

EXAMPLE 2...

Singapore has recently entered into Free Trade Agreements (‘FTAs’) with New Zealand, Australia, Japan, the European Free Trade Association (which comprises Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) and the United States (‘USSFTA’) and is currently negotiating FTAs with Mexico, Canada, ASEAN, the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Korea, India and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. This is done so that USSFTA will cement the already strong economic ties between Singapore and the US.
This shows another example of how Singapore can create strong economic ties between Singapore and other countries.

EXAMPLE 3...

Singapore is going to have the Integrated Resort (IR). This way, many foreigners will come and visit Singapore. When they come back to their country, they may share their experience in Singapore. Thus the Government of that country will be interested in Singapore thus making close friends and a good relationship bond with Singapore. This is another way to create a good relationship between Singapore with other countries.

EXAMPLE 4...

During the Tsunami disaster, Singapore helped the countries affected by the Tsunami by sending the SAF to help the injured and in need. Singaporeans also participate by packing food into boxes to be sent to the countries affected. Singapore also sent help to search for those missing from the disaster. This shows that Singapore is ready to help countries who are in trouble or needs aid.

WHAT TO DO?

•Make regular meetings with other countries and make a good impression on Singapore.

•Show the other countries that Singapore is ready to help defend their countries if they are in trouble.

•Give tributes to other countries if Singapore is invited.

•Be considerate to other countries doings.

•Send aid to other countries to help them if they are in need.

•Send troops to the country if they are in the middle of the war.
